![]() Par for course it's ridiculously quiet, even with the can dry. ![]() I am SUPER FREAKIN' STOKED about this load! Extreme spread is less than 20 FPS over a ten shot string, my best consistency thus far with pistol powder. Today was the second time out with my first Lehigh load & everything looks good to go! I feel very confident it's going to work very, very well when I find some piggies or coyotes! I shot at this target as fast as I could run the bolt & this is why I absolutely love my rifle! I had gathered all the info I was looking for when I decided to do some offhand shooting at 50 meters with my remaining four shells. This was my last day at the range with the Bergers. I MIGHT visit this theory with a light lead bullet at first & see if it looks like it's worthwhile, But there's a lot of projects I have inline before that! But would there be enough barrel to gain acceptable velocity? Could you get enough in the tiny blackout case? Of course we all know the slower the powder, the lower the chamber pressure / higher the muzzle pressure. The only thing I thought that might give this theory credit, is that the powder is burning so slowly, the act of which is less violent. Sounds risky to me, like a stuck bullet waiting to happen. He claims it's so slow burning there's no way you can overpressure the cartridge. His example was stuffing a 10MM auto case as full of 50BMG pull down powder as he could. I was chewing the fat with an ole boy on another forum that claims whole heartedly that slow powder, REAL slow powder can make quiet loads. The opposite side of the coin gets interesting. Ie once you get to a powder that's XXX amount burn rate with a bullet that weighs XXX many grains there's nothing more to be gained? Maybe there's a point of diminishing returns. I'd like to try some powders of the same approximate burn rate as Unique such as W231 & IMR7625. So much so I've axed the idea of buying a. 22 single shot rifle with a long barrel (27" about) & subsonic ammo (which I feel is decently quiet. I'm not sure what 'hollywood' quiet is but here's the best comparison I can think of: compared to an unsuppressed. The Red dot loads should be pretty quiet I imagine? Still the Unique loads seem to be the quietest, laughably quiet. The Red dot loads I tried were far quieter than factory loads & factory loads are quiet in my Phantom. I've experimented with Red Dot in subsonic Blackout and 7.62x39, shot in gas guns with the gas turned off and my YHM Phantom in place, and I have to admit I was disappointed with how loud the report was.
